This time of year is a bittersweet one. Late summer/early fall has always been my favorite. As a kid, it meant back to school and thus, back to seeing my friends everyday. It also meant beautiful autumn leaves and the anticipation for Halloween.

Five years ago, this time of year was ruined for me; my best friend and roommate was killed crossing the street near our apartment. Mike hung on for two weeks after the accident, but passed away from his injuries on September 9th, 2008. He was 23 years old.

I’m hoping that our happy wedding memories will overshadow the sad ones, renewing my love for this beautiful season.
